Burl wood is the result of a unique occurrence in the way the wood grows on some trees. Not the name of an actual tree, but instead the result of an area of growth usually near the trunk, (or sometimes even underground), where an area is filled with knots. This can result in the tree looking deformed in some manner from the outside, but on the inside, the wood is filled with beautiful, natural twirling swirls. We started using wine barrels for jewelry after our partner in the wine business, Adega Northwest had a barrel that was no longer usable for wine, and they asked if we could use it for anything. We were excited at the opportunity to incorporate the wine barrel into new pieces, and so started experimenting with the wood, which catapulted the story of how our collaboration with them grew into both jewelry and wine.
