The Hit Show Bringing Back a Classic American Style
Season 5 of Yellowstone premiers November 13th on Paramount. As such, I thought it would be timely to address the influence of Native American and cowboy cultures on style and current fashion trends and how Sticks & Stones jewelry fits in. Academy Award-winner Ruth E. Carter (Black Panther, 2018) was chosen as the show's costume designer for Season 1. Carter set out to deliver western wear/ranch wear "with a modern twist." Viewers see drool worthy custom jackets and hats. Carter even reproduced a discontinued style of Ralph Lauren jeans for John Dutton, played by Kevin Costner. High-end designer pieces are ubiquitous. For the character Beth Dutton, played by Kelly Reilly, we see suede Prada lug sole boots, floral Ralph Lauren dresses, and a stand-out Lindsey Thornburg cloak made of blue Pendleton blanket wool. We see the supporting cast wearing tailored suits or popular workwear brands like Carhartt and Filson. Johnetta Boone took over costume design for the show in Season 2 and still serves in that role today.

Over 14 million people viewed the season 4 premier, so it's easy to assume season 5 will have similar appeal. The costume design contributes to the show’s popularity. Its influence on style trends is evident. Western wear and workwear brands, such as Wrangler, Lucchese, and Burns are acquiring new, mainstream consumers.

There are the expected big belt buckles and American Indian jewelry, such as sterling silver & turquoise earrings, rings. You see the occasional and unexpected stick pin or brooch. Remember, the key to great styling is unique, thoughtful combinations of apparel and accessories. This allows us to differentiate and define our personal style.

Modern western wear has made a comeback over the last few years and it's likely not going away anytime soon. So, it's hard to resist mentioning how well Sticks & Stones pieces work with this trend. Wear a Sticks & Stones bolo tie or antler point necklace with a button-down collared shirt or floral blouse. Choose linear earrings to compliment a cowboy hat. Regardless of the style you want to achieve, there's a one-of-a-kind Sticks & Stones piece for everyone.
